8 Unusual Tips for Falling Asleep

Wear Socks to Bed

If you have chilly toes, even in the summer, wearing socks to bed may help you fall asleep. Wearing socks helps to raise your body temperature to a helpful level to snooze.

Try and Stay Awake

Conversely, trying to stay awake can lead to quicker sleep than trying to nod off. This concept relies on the opposite of the stress generated when trying to fall asleep, the theory being that you are less likely to be kept awake by anxiety.

Sleeping outside

This may not be the most convenient method, but being outside means your body is accustomed to the natural lighting and sounds of the outside world, helping your body clock adjust to the right time zones.

Breathe Through Your Left Nostril

By closing your right nostril and breathing through your left for a period, can help with stress relief, therefore helping you get to an easier and quicker sleep.

Do a Headstand

Possibly the strangest suggestion on the list but a headstand before bed could be the answer you’ve been looking for. Standing on your head increases refreshed blood circulation around the body and most importantly to the brain. This supposedly detoxifies the adrenal glands, promoting positive thoughts and wards off anxiety that can keep the mind wandering before bed.

Curl Your Toes

Similar to the relaxation techniques taught in a yoga class, curling your toes in bed can actually help you drift off. It can help relax the other muscles in your body, as well as releasing tension that has built up during the day.

Listen to White Noise

White noise can provide a steady sound that blocks out sirens, dogs, noisy neighbours and loud TV’s. Not only can white noise help you get to sleep but it also helps you to stay asleep too.

Plunge Your Face in Cold Water

This may sound like something you’d do to keep yourself awake, but it could actually help you drift off quicker especially on a hot summer night. Excess warmth can make it difficult to get to sleep, so by splashing yourself with cold water before bed you can lower your body temperature slightly, helping you sleep with ease.
