Here are 4 Apps to download to your mobile phone. Not only will these help you Save Food Waste, but they will also help you connect to your local shops and community. You will have access to food for free that maybe close to its sell by date, or from someone just clearing out there cupboards. Some food bundles can be purchased at a very reduced price, this may include meals from restaurants, takeaways or cafes.
You can also become more involved if you choose, by becoming a food champion. Some of the smaller local shops need people to collect and list the food on apps such as OLIO.

OLIO App
A free app that is very widely used in the UK. All items on this app are free, you can list both food and other household items. Food champions will collect items from local small supermarkets and list them on the app. You can tell from each listing how far away they are from you.
It is only once you agree to collect or pass on an item to someone that you will exchange addresses. The app measures the impact your swaps are having by earning climate points. There is also an option to list ‘Looking For’ an item. You never know some may have that item languishing unused and looking for a new home.
More recently they have also introduced a Borrow Item. You can list items such as a step ladder for example, where someone can then borrow them item for a set period of time.

Too Good To Go App
A popular app has recently gained popularity, though it has been around for a number of years. It lists a ‘magic bag’ containing unsold or unwanted food. This may have reached its best before date, at a reduced price. You can then reserve a magic bag of food.
You will find a variety of food businesses, small local supermarkets eg Spar or local independent cafes or high street coffee shops listed. They will offer reduced priced goody bags ‘magic bags of food items. When a goodie bag is listed you reserve it and collect it at the listed time.

No Waste App
keep track of the food in your house and ensuring nothing goes to waste. The No Waste App always you to have an inventory of your fridge, freezer and pantry. Composting garden and food waste is also a great way to close that circle of waste. If you already have a garden compost heap there are other ways to garden sustainably.
Refill App
